Web Design & Development

In today’s digital world, your website is often the first impression your business makes. It’s available around the clock, giving visitors everything they need to understand your services, what makes you the better choice, and why they can confidently work with you.

Why I Build with WordPress

WordPress is the world’s most widely used website platform – and for good reason. It’s built with the end-user in mind, making it easy to update content, add blog posts, or manage images without needing a developer every time. With thousands of themes and plugins available, I can tailor the design and features to fit your exact needs, whether that’s a sleek business site, an online store, or a booking system.

WordPress is also built with SEO in mind, giving your site a better chance to rank higher on Google and attract visitors organically. As your business grows, your site can grow with it — adding features like eCommerce or membership areas without rebuilding from scratch. And unlike platforms that lock you in, you own your site, your content, and your data, with the freedom to host it anywhere.

Web Design & Development

The Process

1

In the first phase of the project, I dig into the heart of your needs, vision and objectives – defining your target audience, analyzing your competitors, and gathering your existing assets and content. The goal is to plan a website that is beautiful, functional, and attracts your target market. A thorough planning phase also helps minimize revisions down the road.

2

With a clear plan in place, I map out the site architecture, navigation, and page layouts, then set up the WordPress environment with the necessary plugins installed and configured. From there, I establish the global styling – colors, typography, buttons and other components – before moving into the build, with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility best practices considered throughout the design and development process if that is a requirement. High quality stock photography is sourced, custom graphics are created, and responsive design is expertly crafted across all devices. And while you’ll be providing the copy, I’m skilled at organizing content in a way that feels meaningful, engaging, and relevant to your audience. Copy editing and proofreading support is also available.

3

This phase involves configuring plugins for security, performance and functionality; basic search engine optimization; and setting up forms, payment gateways, email marketing, Google Search Console, and Google Analytics. Websites are developed behind a “Coming Soon” page, so you can preview it exactly as it will appear live, provide feedback, and request changes. Design Approval Forms are signed at key milestones, and the scope of revisions may vary depending on the complexity of the project.

4

The final phase is all about getting you across the finish line. After a thorough round of final testing, your site goes live. You’ll receive a detailed hand-off document with easy-to-follow instructions, along with a Zoom training session covering the basics of managing your site in WordPress – so you can make updates confidently on your own.

FAQs

We are a good fit if you:

  • Can complete and return the Discovery Questionnaire within 3 days of receiving it. This tells me a lot about how ready you are to move forward.
  • Appreciate that great design takes time – including thoughtful research, creative exploration, and pixel-perfect implementation.
  • Are committed to keeping the project on track by honoring the original plan and timelines we’ve agreed on together.
  • Trust the process – I’ll be guiding every step with experience and design expertise, always aligned with your goals.
  • Welcome collaboration and are ready to actively participate in bringing the concept to life.

Every project begins with research: understanding your business, your audience, and your competitors, so the design decisions that follow are intentional. From there, the work spans typography and color systems, sourcing and editing photography, creating custom graphics, and crafting a layout that looks polished on every device.

Behind the scenes, there’s just as much going on — configuring plugins, setting up integrations, search engine optimization, thorough testing, revisions, and the communication and administrative work that keeps everything on track.

A well-built website typically takes several weeks from start to finish. What you’re investing in isn’t just a design — it’s strategy, expertise, and a digital presence built to work hard for your business.

I totally get wanting to move quickly! Even a one-pager still needs structure and strategy to make sure it’s clear, functional, and aligned with your goals. I’ll walk you through the process so we can create something intentional – not rushed.

Every project is different. Depending on the complexity and scope of work involved, timelines typically range from 3 to 8 weeks or more.

The pace is shaped by both sides – the depth of work required at each phase of the project, and how quickly feedback and content come through on your end. When both are flowing smoothly, projects often wrap up ahead of schedule.

To kick things off, I’ll send you an in-depth Discovery Questionnaire to help me get a thorough understanding of you, your business, products and/or services, target market, goals, vision, style, and the scope of your project. This pre-work is an integral part of the process, and you’ll be able to save a copy of your answers for your own records.

From there, I’ll review your responses and put together a tailored proposal, along with a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask any questions about the project, timeline, and pricing.

Once you’ve signed the contract and made the initial payment, we’ll dive into the research and planning phase. At that point, I’ll also reach out for a few essentials — things like login credentials, your logo files in original AI or EPS format, copy/text, and any graphics or photos you’d like featured on the site. Having these ready early in the process helps keep everything running smoothly and on schedule.

For website packages, payments are collected in several installments – percentages of the total amount. Depending on the size of the project, either 30% deposit or 50% is collected at the beginning of the project. The final payment is made prior to website migration and launch.

Absolutely – and I’d encourage it! A website is never truly finished; it should grow and evolve alongside your business.

Upon handover, you’ll receive a detailed document with easy-to-follow instructions for making your own content updates and additions, so you’re never dependent on someone else for everyday changes. Over time, that kind of independence can save you thousands of dollars.

One thing worth knowing: the plugins on the site will need to be updated periodically, and it’s important to do this carefully to avoid any disruptions. Instructions for this are included in your handoff document. If you’d prefer to hand that off to someone, there are affordable WordPress maintenance services that handle updates, security, and optimization on your behalf.

  • Hosting – you’ll choose and pay for your own hosting plan. I only work with platforms I trust for reliability, security, backups, and free AND excellent customer support. Plan features and pricing vary, so I’m happy to point you in the right direction.
  • You’ll need to register and purchase a domain name, which is generally about $45/year with privacy protection.
  • If your site accepts payments, fees will vary depending on the gateway, card types, and transaction volume.
  • Plugin licenses – If your site requires a premium plugin, you’ll need to purchase the license before the project begins. Any future annual renewals remain your responsibility.

Absolutely. This would just be considered a new project.

We can certainly discuss what other design services you would like to have done, which are not included in the Website package.

There are some things that are not my specialty, such as Google Ads, email direct marketing, illustration, developing custom plugins, in-depth SEO work.

At the start of the project, I’ll provide a clear overview of the process, including key milestones and a detailed estimated timeline so you’ll always know what to expect.

I prioritize open communication, collaboration, and timely responses, to keep things running smoothly. If anything on my end ever causes a delay, you’ll be the first to know. Transparency is part of how I work.
